Well I use photoshop! I put down a texture layer I made from different effects and media found IN photoshop and then I put down individually masked gradient layers on top to colour each part of the texture like skin, or like clothes, or like hair, and then I added in special effects. It was simple for me as a long time photoshop user but it's not so easy for beginners.
